Knowing Why You React Doesn’t Always Mean Knowing How To Stop

In-person therapy for those with big emotional reactions and the emotionally sensitive in Sandy Springs & throughout Georgia

Maybe the tears come before the words. Maybe anger shows up before you can explain what's happening. Or maybe everything feels intense on the inside, even when nobody else can tell.

Understanding an emotional reaction is one thing. Learning how to work with it is another.

Sound Familiar?

Sometimes, knowing better doesn’t make it any easier.

Emotions don't always show up in ways that make sense in the moment. Sometimes they arrive all at once. Sometimes they get stuck. And sometimes what comes out doesn't match what's happening inside.

Crying when angry or misunderstood

Knowing the pattern- still struggling to interrupt it

Shutting down when emotions start to overwhelm you

Feeling emotions intensely, even when nobody sees it.

Replaying conversations, wishing they went differently

Always feeling exhausted- trying to keep everything under control

Understanding your emotional responses

Your Reactions Have A Story.

Emotional reactions seem to happen before there's even time to think. A change in someone's tone feels like rejection. A disagreement brings tears. A moment of frustration turns into anger that feels impossible to put into words.

These responses don't always begin with what's happening in the moment. Past experiences, relational patterns, and the ways our nervous systems have learned to respond to stress can influence how we experience emotions today.

Bonnie helps clients slow down these experiences, recognize emotional and physical cues, and explore what those responses may be communicating.

The goal isn't to find something wrong with you. It's to understand what's happening, why it may be happening, and where there's room for something different.

Working with Bonnie

Understanding the pattern is only the beginning.

Maybe you've figured out that you get defensive when you feel criticized. Or that you shut down when someone raises their voice. You can recognize the pattern afterward, but in the moment, it still feels like your emotions are running the show.

Bonnie helps clients connect the dots between their experiences, emotions, thoughts, and physical responses. Depending on your needs, sessions may incorporate somatic awareness, creative exploration, and practical emotional regulation skills.

Recognize the Pattern

-Identify triggers, emotional cues, and the moments leading up to emotional reactions-

Explore What’s Underneath

-Understand how hurt, fear, grief, or earlier experiences may influence responses-

Reconnect With Your Body

-Notice physical sensations and signs of activation before emotions escalate-

Meet Bonnie Mosby, MSW, TIWL

Emotional regulation isn't about becoming less sensitive or never feeling hurt, angry, or overwhelmed. It's about building the awareness and flexibility to experience emotions without feeling completely controlled by them.

Bonnie offers space for the emotions and experiences that can feel difficult to explain. Her approach brings together deeper emotional exploration, creative and experiential techniques, somatic awareness, and practical skills tailored to each person.

You don't have to show up with the perfect words. There's room to figure things out together.
