Trauma Intensives
Dive deep into your healing journey
Online & In-person intensive trauma therapy in Atlanta and throughout Georgia
Trauma can come from anywhere, whether it be a car accident, abuse in childhood, domestic violence, or even managing chronic illness, or extreme stress. Our bodies are designed to survive, but what happens after it’s all said and done?
You may be struggling with low mood, extreme anxiety, racing thoughts, no motivation to do the things you want, anger, crying spells, or other symptoms that really interrupt the good things of life. Whether you’ve been in therapy for years or are just starting out, trauma intensives can help you jumpstart the work you want to put into yourself.
What are Trauma Intensives?
Trauma intensives are a set of sessions that incorporate a mix of traditional talk therapy and eye-movement-based therapy. The talk therapy portion will help you find and identify your most hurt “parts of self” that were created from your previous traumas and how they remain active in your brain today. The eye-movement-based therapy, called Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) “erases” and desensitizes the images of the traumas you carry, therefore cutting the emotional tie you have to the previous events you survived. Trauma intensives are great ways to jump-start your healing journey, or address one specific part of your life that still holds you back despite doing “all of the other work.”
What is the process of a trauma-intensive?
We book a free 15-minute consultation so that we can better understand the events and backgrounds you’re trying to move past and find healing in. During this call, we also assess the vibes on whether we would be the right personality and therapeutic approach needed in order for you to reach your decided goals.
You’ll be sent a packet asking questions about your background, from childhood to current-day experiences. The specific events or topics you’re looking to work with, your current symptoms and moods, and the overall goal for these sessions.
We meet for your first session, building rapport, creating clarification around who you are and how you carry your trauma, identifying hurt parts of self, priming your brain for ART, answering any questions about the process, and establishing the pace for the following sessions.
We meet for at least 3-4 more sessions (we can do more if needed) to target the identified trauma, working to create a full mind and body understanding of self, the trauma, and working to desensitize the mind and body to those images.
That’s it! Essentially, just four steps in order to be able to find long-lasting relief and the ability to heal and move past your biggest life hurts.
Who is a good candidate for trauma intensives?
Anyone who is motivated for change.
Anyone looking to jump-start their therapeutic work
Anyone looking to dedicate some specialty work to their overall therapy journey
Trauma Intensives serves those who have experienced trauma, which includes but is not limited to:
Sexual abuse, physical abuse, religious abuse, medical complications, chronic medical needs or chronic illness, car accidents, loss of loved ones, natural disasters, workplace violence, deployments, separated families, neglect, being a caregiver to chronically ill or end-of-life, witnessing violence, and much more.
What is not required for trauma intensives: (1) extensive processing of your trauma. Actually, we theoretically can complete the eye-movement therapy part without any knowledge of your trauma; we only need to know the physical sensations you’re feeling in session, (2) long-term commitment to weekly sessions, and (3) living within extreme triggers or rawness between sessions.
What are the benefits of trauma intensives?
Trauma Intensives have the ability to shorten your overall time in therapy or not need regularly scheduled appointments after completing intensives. While none of us in the therapy world can make hard and fast promises, there is a reason intensive approaches and pre-packaged care plans are becoming more common. We are seeing more immediate relief for our clients and long term healing from the traumas they have experienced.
Therapy Intensives also have the ability to meet more people where they are at. Not everyone wants to meet every week and engage in traditional talk therapy, those people tend to more often be men, veterans, police officers, EMS, firefighters, medical professionals, or those who overall tend to subscribe to the “don’t talk about it” approach to healing. If you fall within those categories, you can access relief in ways that better align with who you are as a person.
