Therapy for Athletes
Create peace inside and outside of your sport
Online & In-person counseling for athletes in Atlanta and throughout Georgia
Do you consider yourself an athlete, either current or former?
Have you experienced injury, extended recovery times, retirement, or loss of a team?
Do you feel like your “mental space” has been off since an injury or even retirement?
Are you struggling to find a healthy version of you outside of your sport?
Is therapy that supports athletes the right choice?
If you feel like you experience any of the following:
Struggle to regulate your emotions, whether outside your sport, inside a game, or during practice.
Low self-worth or confidence, especially if you’re working through mental blocks or injury.
Struggle to find identity outside of your sport.
Feelings of being unable to advocate for yourself to coaches or leadership.
Other parts of life get negatively impacted due to your sport.
Therapy for athletes might be the right choice.
Our Approach to Therapy for Athletes:
We meet you where you are. If you’re looking to stay in the game or looking to move to the next thing, we support you. We can help you clearly state your priorities, create real and meaningful goals, help with mindset work during and post-injury, and tackle negative self-beliefs in and out of the game. We incorporate a mixture of skills you can take with you long after you’ve stopped therapy, that will work as you need them to, we identify negative body sensations and map out their root to work with them to shift into something more manageable and neutral, we help you better understand feelings and behaviors that you know are counter productive but can’t seem to stop them, and we can also incorporate eye-movement based therapy that helps with sports performance enhancement, increasing positive self belief, moving on from injury, and much more.
If you’re curious about the eye-movement-based therapy mentioned, check out our Accelerated Resolution Therapy page.
I have some questions about therapy for athletes
Do I have to currently be a part of a team or have played recently?
No, you don’t. We know that sports and athletics is a lifestyle and your coaches and teams played a major impact in your emotional development, even if you aren’t “part of the scene” any more. An athletes mind is unique, focused on grit, pushing past the pain, and shoving down the hard stuff. You don’t magically grow out of that.
Whether you’re still active in your sport or not, you still may be struggling to find a meaningful identity, you might struggle with self-worth, and hit big emotions without skills on how to regulate them without the good old-fashioned “wait until it goes away” tactic. Therapy for athletes can help with mindset, self-worth, and give skills you can take to all parts of life.
How does therapy for athletes help me?
There’s no nailed-down timeline for anyone’s progress. However, we do notice people experience marked relief and improvement after 3-6 months of consistently meeting.
